Parashurama Jayanti is an annual celebration marking the birth anniversary of Parashurama, the sixth Avatar of Lord Vishnu. This special day occurs on the third day of the bright lunar fortnight (Shukla Paksha) in the month of Vaishakha. Celebrated when Tritiya coincides with Pradosh Kala, the twilight period, it is believed that Parashurama was born during this auspicious time.
Parashurama’s incarnation aimed to rid the Earth of sinful, destructive, and irreligious rulers who neglected their duties and exploited resources. He played a crucial role in restoring balance and righteousness.
Parashurama Jayanti is a special day for Hindus. People fast from the night before until the day of Parashurama Jayanti. They go to temples to worship Lord Vishnu and seek blessings. Donating food to Brahmans (priests) is considered very lucky on this day.
This day is also called Akshaya Tritiya and is seen as an excellent time to start or do anything fortunate.
Parashurama is sometimes known as Rama Jamadagnya, Rama Bhargava, and Veerarama in certain Hindu texts. People worship Parashurama as the founding figure (mool purush) of various Brahmin communities like Niyogi Bhumihar, Chitpavan, Daivadnya, Mohyal, Tyagi, Anavil, and Nambudiri.
